After Israel's recognition of Kosovo, the maneuvering space for Serbia is not large, Soptnik writes.
This could virtually be limited to reviewing the decision to move the Serbian Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, for which Serbia is binding on Washington's agreement. This is also seen by Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq's statement, which has said “will build relations with the Jewish state in accordance with new circumstances”.
As things stand now, Washington's deal appears to have adapted to the interests of Israel, the US's closest ally. The only issue that has so far, although partly, has been fulfilled is the final point of the act that should be concerned with the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia signed with Washington and refers to Israel.
Israel in that economic agreement did not go unnoticed even during the signing. In that signed between the Serbian and American president specifys Belgrade's obligation to bear its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem until July 1st, 2021.
When asked what Belgrade can do in this situation, Slobodan Jankovic of the Serbian Institute for Policy and International Economics has said that the “recognition act is only a consequence of what has already been done in Washington”.
“E we have the position of the new US administration that they have nothing against the paper signed in Washington, which means they will try to implement it. We have the opportunity at least to postpone implementing that part of the agreement that refers to carrying the Serbian Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This could be”, Jankoviq said about Sputnik.
This is exactly what was mentioned after the question of where Israel came from as the special point of an economic agreement. This was the first time to hear speculation that Serbia could not fulfill what it signed if Israel recognises Kosovo's independence”, Jankovic has said.
