The convoy was attacked about 10am and 15am during a kidnapping attempt near the city of Canyamahoro, a few miles north of Goma, the regional capital.
Italian Ambassador Lucas Attanasio, and a military policeman traveling with them have been killed, Italy's foreign ministry wrote in a statement, reports The Guardian, translates Periscopi in Albanian.
The third person killed was a driver.

It is not yet clear who stands behind the attack, since no one has claimed responsibility.
Attanacio has been head of the mission in Kinshasa, Congo since 2017, and has become ambassador in 2019. /Periscope
