Italy will speed up the process of adopting antibodies treatments for use for several patients with Covid-19, Health Minister Roberto Spranza said on Saturday.
The minister said he had signed a decree to administer treatments based on monoclonal antibodies, which are largely genetically modified antibodies.
Italian Bars Agency, A The IFA, and the state health council had also opened the green light for treatment.
So, together with vaccines, we have an extra chance to fight Covid-19”, the minister wrote.
AFA has said the emergency situation meant that such treatments could be offered to patients over the age of 12, despite lack of data and uncertainty about the benefit of such drugs.
Treatment should be offered to infected persons who are not in the hospital, have a soft to moderate form of Covid-19, and are at risk of worsening their condition.
The European Bars Agency (EMA) announced in early February that it had begun testing the Grin-COV2 (Regeneron) drug for use against Codavi-19, though some virologists have lost hope that this is a perfect treatment.
