Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared in the courtroom, where he must answer charges of corruption, fraud, and abuse of power. The prime minister was punctual on time.
It is the second time Netanyah sits in the accused's seat, following the first session on 24 May a year ago. Among the issues in order for the day at the session will be the decision to postpone the trial after the March 23rd elections in the country, or if the session can be held even without the prime minister's presence in the hall.
His lawyers have repeatedly tried to postpone the process by denouncing the prosecution's behaviour, seeking to change the charges, as well as the claim that police have gathered evidence against him illegally. Netanyahu himself at the first session in May attacked the judicial system, claiming the charges against him had been fabricated.
There are three cases in which he is involved: the first involves the charge that he has accepted a gift of 260 thousand euros from billionaire Arnon Milkan and Australian tycoon James Packer.
The second issue concerns efforts to reach an agreement with publishers of a daily in the country to get a positive media coverage on changing a law.
While the most serious issue is on corruption charges. Netanyahu allegedly negotiated when he was prime minister and telecommunications minister 2015 (2017) to get positive media coverage, in exchange for favourable government policies for website owner Wallace.
