Investigation into 35 Capitol officers over January 6th attack

Thirty-five Capitol police officers are being investigated for their actions during the January 6th riots, while another six have been suspended from office, with the right to pay. The announcement was made by the police department in a statement Friday. “The Yogananda Pittman provision has given as directive that every member [...]
The temporary Yogananda Pittman chapter has given as directive that every member of its department, whose conduct is not in line with the rules of conduct of the department, will face appropriate punishment”, spokesman John Stolnis said.
Authorities gave no details about the investigation.
Five people, including a Capitol police officer, lost their lives during last month's violent attack when former President Donald Trump's supporters attacked the Capitol.
Two law enforcement officers later committed suicide.
According to congressional assistants and some lawmakers, investigators are considering the response of Capitol police officers on January 6th, and if any of them may have assisted violent protesters.
According to Democrat lawmakers Tim Ryan just days after the attack, it became known that two officers were suspended. He told reporters that one of them had made a secret with one protester, while another had put a Trump hat on his head and was instructing protesters in the building.
It remains unclear whether these two policemen were among the 35 persons currently being investigated or whether they were trying to bring the crowd under control by creating personal contacts with them.
Right-wing protesters went to the Capitol shortly after a speech Mr. Trump held in front of a crowd near the White House. During his speech he addressed the crowd, saying: “We fight. We fight at all costs. And if you don't fight at all costs, you won't have a state”.
Protesters turned to the headquarters of Congress, temporarily blocking the formal certificate of Joe Biden's victory in the November 3, 2020, presidential election, following repeated efforts by Trump to change the outcome.
A week after the rebellion, the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives officially filed a charge against Trump for inciting rebellion. At the end of the trial, the Senate declared the former president innocent. /voa
