The tragedy occurred on the 35th Interstate Highway near Fort Worth, where security cameras showed that a FedEx line truck had crashed into protective barriers after losing control on the iceway, unable to contain in the dish.
Several dozen vehicles behind it subsequently crashed one after another as the flow of collisions extended to 1.5 miles.
Emergency groups who came to the scene described the event as mass accident with cars crashed on top of each other, and drivers trapped inside them.
Initially, the number of victims was reported to five, but the sixth victim was confirmed Thursday evening. Investigators confirmed that 36 of the 65 injured were hospitalised by ambulances.
Investigations into the causes of the accident are continuing in question on adequate road preparation for the thin and slippery conditions envisioned.
