The member of the leadership of the Vetevendosje Movement says the first priority will be to proceed in the Kosovo Assembly with the draft law on the seizure of illegally acquired property.
In the previous term we have worked on drafting the concept-document for this, it is now that on the basis of that concept-document, which was also public, to draft the bill and proceed to the Kosovo Assembly”, Haxhiu says.
It stresses the purpose is to empower mechanisms for confiscating illegal property and to place the burden of testing on the person who is required to justify his wealth.
We will also work on establishing the Supreme Bureau of Investigations that will only deal with high-level corruption”.
On the other hand, Ehat Miftaraj from the Kosovo Institute for Justice stresses that Kosovo has extremely advanced frameworks related to secuation and confiscation of property acquired with criminal activity.
But according to him, the challenge remains law enforcement in the country.
The main problem in Kosovo is the lack of law enforcement in practice, the lack of final sentences that would pave the way for confiscating property acquired by criminal work”, Haxhiu tells Albanianpost.
Miftaraj says only after the Vetting process would this LV initiative produce results.
The <x0-cynic initiative would be effective if we had independent justice institutions impartial and have the will and courage to enforce the law, which today does not exist”
Meanwhile, the National Co-ordinator for Combating Economic Crimes, Albanian Fazliu, has said they have already drafted a report with the seized sum allegedly won illegally.
We can at this moment give the general statistics for 2020 that are like the following: Set-up-up: around 19m euros and Confiscation: 476 thousand euros”.
Fazliu said this report has been submitted to the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council and expects the same one to be approved soon.
But he has not provided additional details about who these people are who were seized and confiscated their wealth.
“Once the same is approved, then we will be able to provide more detailed data”, Fazliu concluded.
