Former President Donald Trump issued the detention measure last year, saying it was necessary to protect American employees in the middle of high unemployment due to the coronary pandemic.
Mr. Biden rejected that reasoning in a statement Wednesday abolishing the visa ban. President Democrat said that move had prevented families from joining the United States and damaged American businesses.
The Beden Democrat has pledged to abolish many of Mr. Trump's severe immigration policies. Migrant protection groups had demanded in recent weeks that it lift the visa ban, which had the deadline expired on 31 March.
Mr. Biden made another move to stop most foreign temporary workers.
In October, a federal judge in California blocked Mr. Trump's ban on those foreign workers after affecting hundreds of thousands of American businesses who challenged that decision in court.
Curtis Morrison, a California immigration lawyer who represents persons affected by the ban, said Mr. Biden would now have to address the issue of a large number of demands that have stalled for months as the pandemic halted most of the procedures by the State Department. The process could last years, he said.
The State Department did not immediately respond to a comment request. / VOA
