Artist film from Kosovo, directed by Blerta Bashall made history today by snatching the three main awards of Sundance Film Festival: Best film, best director, and the valuable public award of the biggest independent film festival in the US. Rygigiki is inspired by true history [...]
He was inspired by the true story of Fahrija Hoti (interpreted by Yllka Gashi) by the Great Krusha, who in search of her husband missing during the war in Kosovo, begins an agricultural business to ensure family survival, in a traditional patriarchal environment where ambition to develop is not viewed with good looks.
Periscopi brought her bio:
Fahrije Hoti He was born on September 18, 1969, in Rogova, Hasa, and Gjakova.
During War in KosovoOne of the worst massacres occurred in this village, where the entire male population of the village was killed. The women of the village have never returned to the bones of their loved ones.
Until today, Fahrija's husband remains on the list of people missing from the war. After the war, Fahrija and all the other women of Krushha faced extraordinary problems. Their houses were burned and their loved ones were still missing.
But Fahrija never gave up. Despite brutal circumstances, she built her farm and began producing ajvar a common pepper in the Balkans. However, that was not enough, for she wanted to include Krusha's wives.
Today, Fahrija is the proud owner of the Krusha Cooperative, a company that produces a variety of pickles and ajvars. It employs about 50 women, some of whom are also widows of war. They fill almost 700 bottles of aivar and pickles every day, which are later sold through Kosovo.
Fahrija has managed to export its products to several European Union countries as well.
The Fahriye story is particularly inspiring, since it not only managed to survive its life's difficulties, but it also succeeded in prospering and progressing.
