Pfizer. B NTech will provide for the bloc's 27 countries and 200 million additional doses with an opportunity to request another 100 million doses, while Moderna will increase supplies with an additional 300 million doses, half of which will be delivered this year. The other half will be delivered in 2022.
As it was announced earlier, 75 million out of the additional 200 million doses of Pfizer will be handed over to member states in the second quarter. The remaining doses will be delivered in the second half of the year.
In general, Pfizer will provide at least 500 million doses and Modernna 360 million before the end of 2021.
Brussels, which negotiated the purchase of vaccine doses, was sharply criticised last month for the slow start of the bloc's vaccine campaign, which was complicated by Pfizer/ BioNtech and AstraZeneca/Altereverity of Oxford announcing the delays in surrender.
But companies said delays were needed to update production skills.
