Palestine's Foreign Affairs Ministry had also reacted to formalising bilateral recognition of Kosovo-Israel, describing this act as disappointing and calling on Kosovo to cancel the decision to open the embassy in Jerusalem.
The agreement that Kosovo signed with the occupational power (Israel) and its declaration of intent to open the embassy in occupied Jerusalem is a step that conflicts with everything Kosovo is trying to do to convince the world to recognise it”, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
On the first day of February, the virtual ceremony of formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Kosovo and Israel was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pristina. Following the statements, Kosovo Foreign Minister Melza Haradinaj- Stubula and Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi have thanked and congratulated each other. The Israeli top diplomat has named Monday historic, thanking the US for this, while later uncovered a plaque with the inscription “Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Jerusalem, Israel”.
The recognition of Kosovo by Israel came as part of the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, which was brokered by Donald Trump's administration in September last year. The agreement also included mutual recognition between Kosovo and Israel, as well as the pledge that Kosovo and Serbia place their embassies in Jerusalem.
Kosovo is the first predominantly Muslim country to place its embassy in Jerusalem.
