Djurdevic: For Serbian Economic Ode, visa liberalisation for Kosovo matters very much

For the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia and businessmen in the region, it is of great importance that Kosovo gets visa liberalisation, Nenad Djurdjevic, adviser to the president of the Chamber of Commerce in Belgrade, said in an interview for Serbian-language Radio Free Europe. Djurdjevic also estimated that citizens and the economy should not be, as he said, hostages of war and post-war policies and that the time has come to overcome these things.
We believe that the potential for greater economic development exists, as evidenced by our co-operation (with chambers of commerce) in the region, but we have to work together. This region is small, with fewer than 18 million people, but it is divided from borders, obstacles, which make it a very attractive space for someone who wants to develop a business here”, Djurdjevic said.
And, when it comes to mini-Shengen, Djutgeveq claims that at the moment it is “an initiative of three countries inviting the other three countries or the economies of the Western Balkans to join to”.
The fact is that the Washington Agreement of September 2020 also committed Kosovo to participate in this initiative, and we hope that it will, because only if everyone actively participates in this process can have better progress for all citizens and businessmen. We think this initiative can contribute to what we've talked about, which can create preconditions for the region market to be a space where the same standards of business and life apply, but as any political initiative, it should translate into concrete steps that administrations in the region should take with clear action plans and responsibility for their implementation, which requires intensive co-ordination at the highest level to ensure the implementation of agreed” policies.
“We expect implementation of the Free Movement Agreement between three countries with only one identity card, agreement for the movement of citizens of third countries, then the agreement on co-operation in protecting disasters in the Western Balkans, and we expect the opening of the labour market very soon, labour movement and mutual recognition of health and social insurance. In view of all of this, I believe it is in the interest of all in the Western Balkans to be part of this initiative and to ensure better living conditions and working conditions for their citizens, Djurdjevic says.
