During the campaign, Kurti and Haradinaj have mentioned joining Kosovo with Albania, Kurti said that in the event of the referendum, he would vote yes. Haradinaj has also mentioned the idea of joining Albania during the election campaign. Meanwhile, Kostett has said that American soldiers have not died for the creation of Greater Albania or even the creation of Great Serbia.
What did I think of this? First, I stand behind what I said. The United States' vision of the Balkans is not Greater Albania and Great Serbia. People have asked, which American soldiers are dead? When I talk about them, then I talk about two American helicopter pilots who died in 1999 during operations here. They died when their helicopter crashed in Albania. Kevin Reeker and David Gibbs. This isn't secret. In Prizren the memorial has been established in their honour, but I also have said it and I think it is important that the Constitution of Kosovo calls for Kosovo to be a multiethnic country and not a single ethnicity. The same is true of people in other countries in the region. The United States takes much of its power from the fact that we are a country of religious and multiethnic diversity. From this we do not take only cultural diversity; we also get the variety of ideas and I think it would be difficult for any American government that the answer to peace in the Balkans lies in dividing everyone according to ethnicity and building walls. We must build bridges, not walls”, he said at T7.
Meanwhile, the national union has been cited as alternative, as its citizens live in isolation and are not allowed visa-free travel to EU states. Kostett says he does not see Kosovo's future in isolation.
I won't try to get into the mind of all those individuals who have talked about it. I think that the future of Kosovo does not stand in isolation, or use your word, of living in ghetto. Kosovo must be part of large Europe, not only of large Albania. Of course, as an American, it is easy to say that the EU should offer Kosovars visa liberalisation”, he added.
