The Kosovo Police Inspectorate has acknowledged over 1650 complaints against police officials, a significant 16% increase in the previous year. One of the reasons that has sparked discontent with police officers, according to the Inspectorate, is the anti-steps. - CO VID. In the wake of complaints, 83 police officials have been suspended, criminal charges have been filed in 82 cases, and 32 police officials have been arrested.

The chief chief of the Kosovo Police Inspectorate, Kufik Hodaj, said that these police officials have doubts of various criminal acts. He for Kosova Prees says the most frequent cases are the mistreatment of citizens, misuse of official duty, and traffic accidents.

We have received over 1650 complaints during 2020. Which is 15 or 16 percent higher than the previous year. We're finalising the December report even by doing the analysis and the assessments of why this is the increase. We have appreciation that some can be due to the effect of anti-mature measures - CO VID and citizens' discontent with concerns of anti-match measures - CO VID. There's a number of complaints related to this”, Hodaj shows.

Hodaj also speaks of the measures pronounced for Kosovo Police members. For all investigated officials, he adds that competent prosecutors are currently being taken away.

We have requested or recommended the suspension of 83 police officials. We have filed criminal charges in 82 criminal cases that were initiated. 32 police officials linked to criminal allegations have been arrested. And also six citizens who are part of these joint cases with police officials. The part of the criminal acts which were reviewed were sent to competent or separate prosecutors depending on the findings”, he adds to Kosova Preress.

During the preceding year, it shows that three extraordinary inspections have been conducted. Meanwhile, it adds that even the beginning of this year has continued with large numbers of citizens' complaints.

Even last week alone, six officials have been suspended, suspected of mistreatment of citizens.

The last few days have also arrested police official Haris Kelmendi under suspicion that during 2018, he has physically mistreated an 18-year-old at the Pristina police station. In this case, the Kosovo Police Inspectorate has also arrested a police official under suspicion that the same has committed criminal work “mishandled during the exercise of official task”.

“have continued further investigations into expanding and finding other persons who have been responsible when it occurred to use violence within the police station (the 18-year-old case in Pristina). And it has also been identified and arrested by a police official who has been dealing with that citizen's case at the moment it happened. Of course, we've also banned the second official in this case. We also recommended the suspension of a sergeant who's been in the shift that was in case of”, Hodaj declares.

In addition, he has spoken of cases that have been reported for the use of force against the Syrians coming to Kosovo. The Hodaj submission says such cases have been addressed, while there are times when the use of force is necessary, which is also permitted by law.
