On the first visit of an American president to Albania, Bush was focused on the fate of Kosovo Albanians.
The US was working hard to reach an international agreement on Kosovo. “Independence is the goal. This is what the people of Kosovo need to know. If it doesn't seem to happen in a very short period of time, for my judgment, we have to bring a resolution forward. And so, a deadline when this should happen. ”
These encouraging statements for Kosovo were seen with great optimism by all Kosovars, except Vetevendosje that only months earlier, in February of that year, had staged violent protests against Ahtisaari's Pacos.
