O BSH shows when anti-David vaccines in Kosovo will arrive

February month has been warned as period of achieving first vaccines against COVID-19 in Kosovo. So far no eye has been secured. However, Isme Hummolli of the World Health Organization told the Voice of America that the first doses of vaccines are expected to arrive next week or the first week of the month [...]

“Sic you are aware of Kosovo a beautiful amount of the vaccine will be taken from the COVAX mechanism. The desire of both sides, both Kosovo and COVAX, is for vaccines to come as soon as possible, but we are witnessing that there is a lack of vaccine due to the inability of producing the necessary amount or just as required by states. So the capacities are lower”, Humwall said.

She said that Kosovo is not lagging behind in this process, but delays are the result of restrictions on production, as well as greater financial opportunities of other states.

In the concrete case Serbia has moved far ahead of many other states, not only the countries of the region, Albania is vaccinating with donations with an extremely small number of vaccines, Macedonia and other states are in the same phase. So we can't say that Kosovo is stuck, but we have to remember one more thing, that countries that are richer they have pledged millions for vaccines at the time that only the production of vaccines has started”, she says.

Under the national immunization plan, several more endangered categories will first be vaccinated in Kosovo, while more than 60 per cent of the population is expected by the end of this year.

“Bugs that have priority are initially health workers, but not all of them, health workers who are directly involved in treating patients with Codvid, then persons who take strippers and samples from suspicious cases with Covid, and at the same time have been classified as 80 years of chronic illness, then 70 years of chronic illness and thus are gradually able to include the population”, she said.

The chairman of the Kosovo Medical Oda, Plerat Sejdiu, says any delay in this process is a risk of expanding infection and loss of doctors in the country. So far nearly four thousand health workers have been affected by COVID-19, and 18 have lost their lives, he says.

This may be said to be not a large number, but when we see what our capacity is, we talk about 40 percent of doctors. We are in expectation, it is true that we have hoped very much in the coming of the vaccine a little earlier, at least one contingent that would ensure that our human capacities of the health system are vaccinated and are prepared for new waves if it is designed or whether it happens”, he says.

The European Union said that to facilitate the vaccine process in the Western Balkans, in partnership with the World Health Organisation it has launched a new regional project worth over 7m euros.

Pfizer and AstraZeneca are the two vaccines authorized by the World Health Organization for counteruse COVID-19. COVAX, meanwhile, is the initiative of this organisation, intended to supply vaccines to poor countries.

In Kosovo, the first corruption cases were registered in March last year, and there have been 66 thousand and 380 infected, 58 thousand and 169 healed, as well as a thousand and 572 people who have lost their lives from its consequences since then.

During the last two days, 690 people infected with COVID-19 have already lost their lives from the effects of this disease. / VOA
