Riho Terras, a Estonian Eurodeput from the European People's Party, is upset about Borrell's trip to Moscow last week. Borrell, the EU foreign affairs chief, was in the Russian capital several days after the arrest of Kremlin critic Alexei Navally.

While Borrell was meeting with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, Moscow expelled three European diplomats after attending the pro-Navalny gatherings.

“Visita itself was a total disaster”, Terras said in an interview for Euronea.

After Friday's press conference between Borrell and Lavrov, Terras drafted a very critical letter to Ursula von der Leen, European Commission President, asking her to “take measures if Borrell does not resign on his consent”.

According to Terras, the letter has so far been signed by over 50 Euro-deputees who belong to different parties.

The text argues that Borrell “consistently failed to defend the European Union's interest” and made false statements about EU sanctions.

Terras also charges him with adopting Sputnik V, Russia's COVID-19 vaccine, and the attack on the EU's top <x0-letalate, the United States, on Cuba”.

Terras also intends Borrell not to complete the trip when Russia expelled three EU diplomats from Germany, Poland and Sweden.

“Russia showed everything possible to humiliate the EU's top diplomat,” told Terras Euronea.

I understand you want to make a dialogue. But if one is playing hockey on ice, the other can't do figure dance. And this is what happened in Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister played Mr. Borrell around and humiliated him. ”

The Eurodeput believes Borrell should follow the example of Phil Hogan, the former European Trade Commissioner who resigned in August after attending a golf dinner in Ireland that opposed the restrictions of the Coronavirus. Terras believes that Hogan committed “much smaller” than Borrell.
