Biden on Serbia's independence day, urges Kosovo recognition

US President Joseph Biden sent a letter of congratulations to the president of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vuciq, on the occasion of Serbia's State Day. In this letter, Biden also called for the achievement of a comprehensive Kosovo-Serbia agreement, which will focus on mutual recognition.

On behalf of the American people, I express my sincere congratulations to you and your fellow citizens on the 15 February State Day of Serbia,”, writes the message of congratulations. B92.

Beden in his letter particularly stressed US support “for reaching a comprehensive agreement on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, which focuses on mutual recognition”.

In his letter US president has also confirmed US support for Serbia's European integration

“We remain steadfast in supporting Serbia's goal for European integration and encourage you to keep making difficult steps towards that goal, including the introduction of necessary reforms,” said the US president

The scope of our relations is based on the profound history of ties between our peoples who fought as allies in both world wars and we appreciate the great contribution that Serbs have given to American society in many areas. We also appreciate our close co-operation by fighting the Devid-19 pandemic, while together we face this unprecedented global challenge. I expect to co-operate with you in deepening the friendly ties between our countries and strengthening relations between Serbia and the United States” is said among other things in Biden's congratulations.
