US President Joe Biden said the United States would not lift their economic sanctions on Iran as a move to bring Tehran back to the negotiating table to discuss how the 2015 nuclear agreement could rise. These comments, Mr. Biden made for the television network. CBS during a recorded interview Friday, part of which was made public Sunday.
Asked whether the United States would initially lift sanctions to bring Iran back to the negotiating table, Mr. Biden replied: “jo”. He was later asked whether Iran should first stop enriching uranium, President Biden waved his head as a sign of approval. A senior official explained that with this, Mr. Biden meant that Iran must stop enriching the borders that the 2015 nuclear agreement allows.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatolah Ali Khamenei, said the United States should lift all sanctions if Washington wants Iran to change its stance on enriching uranium.
“Iran has fulfilled all its obligations under the 2015 nuclear agreement. This was not done by the United States and three European countries. If they want Iran back on its pledges, the United States must first lift all sanctions”, Khamenei tweeted. “After verifying if all sanctions have been lifted, then we will return to full implementation of the agreement”, he wrote.
US President Joe Biden, who took the country's lead last month, has said that if Tehran returns to the exact implementation of the 2015 pact, Washington would do the same, and would use it as a springboard for a broader agreement that could limit the development of missiles from Iran and regional activity.
In 2018, former President Donald Trump withdrew America from the nuclear agreement with Iran and imposed sanctions on this country.
Iran has violated the deal in countering President Trump's policies for <x0 maximum pressure”, but has repeatedly said it could change attitude if US sanctions are lifted
