American State Senate has voted 56 votes. Pro and 44 counter that it is constitutional to hold the trial for a president who is no longer in office.
This means that the second trial for Donald Trump will begin tomorrow. A simple majority of votes was needed for making this decision.
Trump is accused of inciting the rebellion a month ago, urging his supporters to face lawmakers in the Capitol as they were certified the victory of Democrat Joe Biden in the November 2020 elections.
The protest turned into a violent clash. About 800 supporters of Mr. Trump attacked the Capitol authorities, broke doors and windows, robbed several Congress offices and clashed with police. As a result, five people were killed, among them a Capitol Police officer and a protester who was shot by a police officer.
