Albin Kurti is questioned by Bulgarians: Dialogue with Serbia to be sincere

Vetevendosje Movement Chairman and the main candidate to become prime minister, Albin Kurti, has said there will be enough votes in the Assembly to form the new government without post-election coalitions. He says he can get votes from non-Serb deputies as well as from any opposition deputy. We just made the coalition [...]

We've already made the coalition before the election, and this pre-election coalition that we've created with President Vjosa Osmani's list, which has made these early elections turn into a referendum on people, where we won victory by a river of votes. Consequently, we don't see any other party from the old “guard” or “Ancimen Régime” as we prefer to call them, as our government's future partner. As a result, if by 50 percent of the vote, we don't have 61 deputies of parliament because of the 20 countries reserved for minorities, we plan to take MPs from non-Serb minorities, and perhaps some members of parliament from the opposition who would simply want to represent the people they have voted on, despite the parties they belong to. I am convinced that our government will have a majority, without having to enter any kind of negotiations with those who are defeated from our list of”, Kurti has declared.

Kurti in an interview for the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) has again insisted that dialogue with Serbia is not one of his priorities.

These are the days that celebrate the 13th anniversary of the declaration of independence, and we have noticed that in each survey, in each questionnaire, public, local or international opinion, dialogue with Serbia is the priority number six or seven. We're going to make a concession and turn it into the number four priority after the employment, justice and the David-19 pandemic. We will open a new chapter with Serbia through a genuine dialogue based on durability and equality, where both sides will extend preliminary agreements of these six years of dialogue in Brussels, where Belgrade says we have 47 agreements, while we insist that we have only 33, some of which will be implemented in part, some fully, and some will not be implemented at all. However, it will not be easy, but I hope we will succeed in establishing a new dialogue under the auspices of Brussels and with the help of the United States. I believe that normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia should not be done at the expense of the normalisation of these separate entities, Serbia and Kosovo” respectively, Kurti added.

Regarding integration into the European Union, Kurti said it would work with the five countries that have not recognised Kosovo, such as Spain, Slovakia, Romania, Greece and Cyprus, to change their thinking about Kosovo's independence.

Kosovo's “integration into the European Union is a process that is moving very slowly. That's because on the one hand, we still don't have visa liberalisation, though we have met all the criteria. On the other hand, we have five non-recognitional countries: Spain, Slovakia, Romania, Greece and Cyprus. I plan to work with these states and convince them that they should not fear Kosovo independence and its recognition, and that they should not compare themselves with Serbia, which committed genocide in the spring of 1999 in Kosovo. Kosovo's integration into the EU is something all people in Kosovo love, but I already know that we will not enter the EU, but by ourselves and within ourselves, we will create European values and standards. The six of the Western Balkans, not yet integrated into the EU, are not just neighbours of the EU, since we are surrounded by the EU, and all these six states should be involved as soon as possible. The Balkans and the EU are very important for each other”, Kurti has declared. / KSP
