48 NGOs of non-Serb communities react: Elite MPs don't represent us

In a joint response, 48 NGOs of non-Serb communities do not recognise MPs who have not emerged from their votes as their representatives.

They say efforts are under way to usurp guaranteed countries for Bosniaks and communities in the Kosovo Assembly.

“Ignoring the will of citizens of non-US communities and usurping power from many communities and political movement will set a dangerous precedent in Kosovo's democratic practice and will be an indication of much greater problems in the process of restoring power in the Republic of Kosovo”.

Members of non-most communities enjoy specific rights defined with the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, and in line with the circumstances the guaranteed countries in the Kosovo Assembly clearly define representatives who take their legitimacy from votes in their community, it is said in response.

According to them, trying to usurp Bosniak countries in the Kosovo Assembly by vote from other communities is a flagrant act of violating constitutional provisions and of the right of a non-most people to elect their representatives who will protect their interests.

The primitive policy power being trying to install is unacceptable and aims to bring the non-most community under control in order to gain political power within the Parliament and have a greater impact on the process of restoring power in Kosovo”, it is further highlighted.

According to preliminary results, Bosniak political parties received 7,000 more votes in this election compared to previous parliamentary elections.

A list that fought for a guaranteed spot for Bosniaks received the largest number of votes in areas where there are no Bosniaks at all, or there are very few of them compared to votes received. The numeric superiority of a community should not be used to distort the electoral will of citizens of a community. Such attacks on the citizens' electoral will will make the election process meaningless and further complicate the survival of non-most communities in the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, because preliminary results of the Central Election Commission do not reflect Bosniaks' election will and several other communities”, it is further said.

These NGOs say they distance themselves and will not accept as their representatives those politicians who were elected against the will of the Bosniak people of Kosovo, that is, elected by the votes of other communities.

They have called on foreign embassies and diplomatic representatives in Kosovo to react, as citizens' will is being distorted.

Therefore, we invite all competent institutions to seriously address these unconstitutional phenomena cancel illegal mandates because they are contrary to the guarantees involved in the Kosovo Constitution. We call on foreign embassies and diplomatic representatives in Kosovo to join in solving this problem, because no one has the right to brutally distort the electoral will of citizens of non-most communities”. We call on the political representatives of non-most communities to fight together and in a synchronized manner against the usurpation of guaranteed countries, because this situation is typically linked to poor policy behaviour at all levels in the previous period.

“We urge the future prime minister to find a new model and mechanisms to protect non-most communities from such attacks in guaranteed countries and the fragile democratic institutions of the Republic of Kosovo as soon as possible, said at the end.
