Weber expert: Germany to commit to serious resumption of dialogue

The renowned German expert for the Balkans and senior associate of the Berlin Democratic Policy Council, Bodo Weber, expects a stronger commitment by the new German government to a serious resumption of negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia. He also said that with Chancellor Merkel's arrival, she expects a new relationship [...]
A new coalition is in power from today in Germany, while the government is headed by a new Chancellor for the first time, after 16 years of ruling Angela Merkel.
According to German expert for the Balkans, it broadcasts <x0N1”, this is not only a new era for Germany, but also a new era of German relations with Serbia.
“expects changes to Serbia. The position of outgoing Chancellor Merkel's government began with the principled policy of establishing political dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo on clear principles and a clear negotiating framework. It somehow created Mr. Vuciq and its beginning was marked by a certain Europeanisation of his policy. But because of the loss of the strategic direction of this European Union led by Germany and the Chancellor at the end, we received a look through Berlin and Brussels' fingers about the state and development of democracy in Serbia. At the same time, Chancellor and Berlin remained quite empty-handed, because that dialogue [Kosovo-Serbia] -- unlike its beginning of history -- turned to its own opposite”, says Weber.
German analyst estimates that “the relationship between Merkel-Wucciq, which somewhat created the current regime in Serbia, and in a way the Chancellor and Berlin were hostage to this relationship, now goes with Mrs. Merkel”.
“So, especially because of the role of greens in the new government, I expect a political turn-in”, he said.
Weber says he expects a stronger stance and a stronger commitment from the new German government.
“expects a stronger commitment to EU integration and open quarrel with French President Macro for his blockade of new membership. I expect a stronger commitment by the new government to a serious resumption of Serbia's negotiations with Kosovo, which have been completely blocked in recent years and at the same time, I expect a new relationship between the new government and Berlin towards the government of Vuciqi in Serbia, based on special emphasis on democratic principles and values of rule of law, as well as the end of looking through fingers in relation to the authoritarian and autocratic rule of the regime in Serbia that we have seen in the last 10 years”, says Weber.
