The auction is expected to be held in January from house “Guerseny” and the salesman of this key is Christo Brand, the former guard in the prison where I was convicted Mandela.
But top South African officials disagree with this auction and say no one has consulted this country's government.
This key belongs to the South African people. It is not a personal item”, Culture Minister Nati Mthena said.
While auction house “Guerseny” explained that the proceeds from his sale will go to the garden and museum around Mandela's grave.
The key is one of the former president's items to be sold. Among other things, there is an original painting called the Lightfoot “and a bicycle with which he was trained while in prison.
