The United Kingdom is deeply committed to security in Europe. The Western Balkans are experiencing the greatest threat to stability and security in more than two decades. We have the responsibility to do everything we can to preserve the successes achieved through peace and dialogue we cannot allow any return to the violence and divisions of the past. Sir Stuart Peach's extensive experience and expertise will reinforce international efforts to protect peace and promote Euro-Atlantic integration in this key region”, Johnson has said.
The same will take up the new post after resigning from the post of NATO Military Commission Chairman, a role he has held since 2018.
Previously, he has also served as Chief of the United Kingdom Protection Staff.
In announcing the British Embassy, Sir Stuart Peach will reportedly work with international partners in support of the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue mediated by the European Union.
“As the prime minister's special envoy, Sir Stuart Peach will work with Western Balkan leaders, with others in the region, and allies in the US and Europe to support and strengthen regional stability. His work will also include promoting strong democratic institutions and open societies, favouring the fight against organised crime and other common security challenges, as well as encouraging the resolution of inherited issues, such as war crimes and missing persons”.
“Linked to the latter, the United Kingdom will also continue to lead the work of advancing gender equality and implementing the Initiative for Prevention of Sex Violence in Conflict. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sir Stuart Peach's work will support that of the international High Representative, Christian Schmidt, who continues to have the full support of Britain”.
