The conclusion is the result of a new study conducted by the Durban-based Institute for Health Research of Africa, which included 33 vaccinated and unexplored persons. Scientists found that immunity to a further exposure to Omitron increased 14 times about two weeks after the infection, while they also found that immunity against variant Delta improved 4.4 times.
Scientists say immunity rose especially among those who were not vaccinated. The study, which has not been revised by health experts, has been submitted to the medical magazine MedRxiv. An earlier study by South Africa revealed a reduced risk of hospital hospitalization and serious Omitron diseases compared with Delta.
The Omitron type has spread rapidly worldwide since its first discovery in South Africa in November.
