British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has appointed Stuart Peach as the Special Envoy for the Western Balkans.
The Great Britain Embassy has announced some of the priorities of British Prime Minister Stuart Peach's Special Emissar for the Western Balkans. The longtime military in the United Kingdom will commit to supporting European and American allies for regional stability, including support for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
Some of his priority will be to address organised crime seriously, the war crimes issue and missing persons as well as support for dialogue.
“Some of his priorities include: Promoting democratic institutions and open societies. Treating serious crime organized. Encouraging the solution to unresolved issues such as war crimes and missing persons. Support for the work of the International High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Supporting the EU-brokered dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia”, the Great Britain Embassy announced in Kosovo.
But who's Stuart Peach?
Sir Stuart Peach is former senior British Air Force officer. After training as a navigator, Peach commanded the British bomber's squad and later became deputy commander of the RAF Bruggen station. He then became Air Commander. NATO in Kosovo in 2000, writes the Express newspaper.
He continued to be Chief of Defence Intelligence in 2006, Joint Operations in 2009, and the first Joint Force Command Commander in December 2011 before being appointed Deputy Chief. Britain's Defence Staff in May 2013. Peach succeeded General Sir Nick Houghton as Chief of Defence Staff on July 14, 2016. He succeeded General Petr Pavel as chairman of the NATO Military Committee on 29 June 2018, serving in the task until his retirement in June 2021.
Peach was born on February 22, 1956, in Staffordshire, England, by Cleveland Peach and Jean Mary Peach. He was educated in Aldridge Grammar School, in Aldridge, Staffordshire. He then studied geography, economics and social history at the University of Sheffield, graduating from Bachelor in 1977. Later he studied at Downing College, Cambridge, and received the Master of Philosophy ( MPhil) in 1997.
Peach served as commander of the British Forces in Italy from 1999 to 2000 and Air Commander NATO in Kosovo in 2000. As a result of his work in Kosovo, he was appointed commander of the Order of the British Empire on April 6, 2001.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Stuart Peach he will reinforce international efforts to protect peace and promote Euro-Atlantic integration in the Balkans.
