Former Serbian diplomat: West to force Serbia to recognise Kosovo

Former Yugoslav Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladislav Jovanovic says the West should speed up the resolution of the neurologic points in the Balkans. He believes that West has a way of making Serbia recognise Kosovo's independence, while mentioning Republika Srpska as an important factor in the issue. “The West is currently most [...]

“The West is currently more engaged in BiH, wanting to isolate RS, force it to withdraw from what it believes are radical requirements and put pressure on Serbia, given its sensitivity, both because of elections and because of Kosovo”, Jovanovic said.

According to him, the West wants to force Serbia to accept the situation that it created as soon as possible to recognise Kosovo and thus cease to exist as a destabilising factor in the Balkans.

The former Serbian diplomat cited several reasons according to him for the added international presence in the region, while adding that Britain, according to him, considers itself a specialist for Balkan affairs and traditionally and has been present for centuries visible and invisible.

Its rich historical experience, knowledge and ability to use advantages and contradictions are now being used in the direction of the broader interests of the United States and Western allies”, Jovanovic said.

He said dialogue started with a single goal of normalising relations, which means Serbia recognises Kosovo's independence and added that everything else is irrelevant both for the West and for Kosovo, the Express broadcasts.

And our expectations that nothing will be resolved radically, but that dialogue will be dedicated to improving the lives of Serbs and resolving practical issues related to contacts and co-operation between us and Pristina, are not of interest to the West”, he said.
