PDK MP Eliza Hoxha has proposed to increase the budget for the education category with special needs, and thus increase the number of assistants for children with special needs.
The education for children with special needs will increase the 2.5m-euro budget in the salary category and additions and the total amount will be 3m and 821 thousand euros. So as reasoning in the absence of assistants imposes upon the mothers of these children and deprives them of their involvement in the public sphere, taking care of these children. There are currently 100 assistants engaged in the pre-university system for 3 thousand 539 children with special needs from first grade to 12th grade. The proposal for 500 assistants in pre-university institutions is that the number of an assistant who has to work with 12 children, low at least one assistant to work with 6 or 7 children”, Hoxha stressed.
But this amendment has not received the promotion of position. For this, Kosovo Assembly Vice President Saranda Boguyevci said she will abstain.
I was a kid who had assistance while I was at school for two reasons. I understand very well what it means to have needed assistance. It's been for language-indisposed assistance but also for limited skills. Because I had the impossible use of my left hand. And this has lasted for years. But I'm going to abstain today from this amendment, because I respect the fact that we have people in the government now who have taken steps that have been taken long ago in relation to the needs they are. Bogujevci has promised that they will continue to take steps for the assistance of disabled children.
The director of the organisation “Down Syndrome Kosova” has demanded that the amendment proposed by MP Eliza Hoxha for employing 500 assistants be supported. According to her, 100 assistants will not meet even 20 percent of the needs of disabled children.
