The German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published a text that Rama, Vuciq and Zaev have compiled together to seek the support of the new government in Berlin.
“We hope that the new government in Germany will accept the Open Balkans initiative as a contribution to full implementation of the Berlin Process”, the text signed by the leaders of the three states, says.
Europe is not just a continent, it is a vision. However, citizens of the Western Balkans, who are integral parts of the continent and this vision, have been abroad for a long time. Our people's desire to be accepted by EU members has been repeatedly denied by the internal policies of member states, failing to fulfill their promises and fearing the future. This has brought disappointment, instability, migration, and lack of large investment. As political leaders of these countries, we can either complain about it or take action against it. For this we have placed”, the text published in FAZ says.
Rama, Vuciq and Zaev, show Bundestag that in November 2019 they have signed an agreement on the Inquisition of the Berlin Process, taking responsibility for, reportedly, deepening co-operation in the region.
Our “vision is to overcome social, economic and commercial barriers that hinder the economic growth of our region by implementing four European freedoms in our countries. Therefore, we have signed agreements that remove border controls so that goods can pass almost without delay and enable our citizens to work without obstacles in another state of”, writes Rama, Vuciq and Zaev on paper.
According to the three leaders, the Open Balkans “” has proved effective and useful in overcoming the challenges of pandemic. They write that the initiative is open to other Western Balkan countries as well.
Our <x0-cynics, which we call the Open Balkans, have proved effective and useful in overcoming very difficult times of pandemic. Although the Balkan Open Initiative so far includes only Serbia, Albania and Northern Macedonia, it is open to all Western Balkan countries. We seize this opportunity and invite all our neighbours to unite once more and offer their population the good that we offer our people”, appeal Rama, Vuciq and Zaev.
The three leaders voiced hope that the new government in Germany will accept and support the Open Balkans initiative as a contribution to full implementation of the Berlin Process. According to them, some heads of state and government have already supported this initiative.
Text signatories complete the request for support with this statement: our “initiation for the Open Balkans is a major step towards EU membership. The EU must be supported”.
