Portugal began vaccinating children under 12 at its largest vaccine centre in Lisbon this Saturday.
About 61 thousand children across the district are registered to receive the vaccine for the first weekend, the AP writes, broadcasts Clankosova.tv.
Portuguese officials say that more than 90 percent of the 12-17-year-old age group received a vaccine and that the vaccination will be by age, with older children taking their first dose.
Portugal is already one of the most vaccinated countries in the world, with 89 per cent of people fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the latest figures.
The cases have increased over the past two months, although hospital hospital stays are not yet at the first levels before.
Greece, Italy, Spain, Hungary and France were also among those countries that expanded the vaccine programme for younger children.
