During talks with three women and one man for the Italian network TG5, the pope said the number of women who were beaten and violated in their homes was “very high”.
The problem is that it's almost satanic to me because it's used by a person who can't protect himself, who can only stop the hit. It's humiliating. It is very humiliating”, the Pope said, answering a woman's question, the victim of domestic violence, broadcast Reuters.
The pope said women who were beaten and raped had not lost their dignity.
“I see dignity in you, because if you didn't have dignity, you wouldn't be here”, the pope said, addressing a woman who was a victim of domestic violence.
During the conversation, the pope also heard a homeless woman talk about life on the street and a man trying to get up after 25 years in prison.
Since the beginning of the coronary epidemic nearly two years ago, Pope Francisescu has voiced several times against domestic violence, which has increased in many countries since restrictive measures were introduced.
