Omitron in Kosovo: The Health Ministry talks about new measures

From yesterday, Kosovo has entered the map of countries affected with the new version of COVID-19 known as Omitron. Nine citizens have already resulted in infection with this version of the Coronavirus. While in the Ministry of Health for Kosovo, they say that depending on the epidemiological situation, they will also take preventive measures. Infectologist Shemsedin Dreshaj says increased anti-action measures are necessary - CO VID, but warns that worsening the pandemic situation with Omitron may occur by mid-February.

Drin Podrimqaku, adviser to the Ministry of Health in a response to KosovaPress, has stated that they are constantly reviewing the new data on which to update the situation and the degree of risk on which they will upgrade measures.

The Ministry of Health knows no more important task than to protect the lives and health of our citizens, with all the means at hand. That's why restrictive measures have been taken, both within the country and at the border points, given the risk of spreading the Omitron variant, so we are constantly looking at the latest data of epidemiological analysis and recommendations of health institutions on which we will update measures, conform situation and risk scale”, Podrimqaku said.

Inphecologist Shemsedin Dresaj says that Kosovo is currently leading the region with the largest number of Omitron cases, but adds that even further the option Delta will continue to be the dominant version in the country.

He points out that Omitron characterizes a spread faster than the preliminary variants of COVID-19.

“Presenting 9 cases means that, unlike the region, Kosovo leads with the number of cases that are with the option Omitron, and that would mean that the Ministry of Health and the team of experts operating within I The KSHP to be promoted and to take adequate measures regarding the prevention of this disease... is quite difficult to prevent such a spread, even though variant Delta will be for even a time dominant variant that is present despite the fact that the new version of SARS-COV2 characterizes the Omitron version characterizing a faster and more pronounced spread and compared to the preliminary” variant, he stressed.

Kosovo's National Institute of Public Health yesterday has indicated that of 22 positive samples with COVIID-19 of December 15 to 25, 2021, nine of them have resulted positive in the presence of the Omitron variant (B.1.1.529), where from these cases 2 are imported from the US, 2 are imported from London, United Kingdom, 1 case has been imported from France, and 4 cases with the Omitron version detected are in the municipality of Mitrovica.

Even today, the Ministry of Health has continued calling for anti-inoculation - CO VID.
