Sali Berisha and members of the Refounding Commission in the Democratic Party entered Democratic Party headquarters this Tuesday. A DP supporter kicked the closed door of the hall where media conferences are held in the DP, and then all members went in.
In another hall, Lulzim Basha is holding a parallel meeting with members of the DP leadership. Basha's supporters and his bodyguards are also in the hall.
The DP's re-founding commission is a new body created by the 11 December assembly, which will oversee the transition process in the DP until the vote for a new chairman, in March. In the 11 December assembly, Lulzim Basha was voted into dismissal, a decision that was ratified with a referendum on the DP branches throughout the country.
This assembly is not recognised by Lulzim Basha and the DP's chairmanship, which organised another national assembly on December 18th, where they expelled Sali Berisha from the party's leading positions, due to a “non granta” from the United States.
