The prisoners who will come from Denmark are expected to be located at the Gjilan Correcting Centre, yet the Ministry of Justice has not yet decided where it will transfer Kosovo prisoners currently located at this centre.
Eris Hannah from the Justice Ministry has said they are working with the Kosovo Correcting Service in order to find efficient ways to transfer prisoners.
“We are in full co-operation with the Kosovo Correcting Service, follow all internal procedures and find more efficient ways of transferring them to other corrective institutions”, he said at RTV Dukagujni.
Meanwhile, Council for Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms Chairman Behxhet Shala has said that the prisoners to come will be treated according to Danish laws.
“They will be handled according to Danish laws, they will not be treated according to the laws for criminal acts. Those prison standards are too high. The accommodation conditions are much higher”, he stressed.
Otherwise, the Justice Ministry on Thursday through a communique for the media has provided details about the agreement, which says Kosovo will benefit 210m euros.
The justice ministry is pledging the release of a correctional institution with a capacity for three hundred convicts, who will be brought by the Kingdom of Denmark. The convicts who will be transferred to this institution will not be high risk. In compensation for this, the Republic of Kosovo benefits 210m euros, which will also be dedicated to capital investments, in particular for renewable energy”, the Justice Ministry communique says.
The Kosovo-Denmark agreement is expected to be signed next week, while this should be ratified in the Assembly as well.
