One minister of Madagascar was one of two survivors who swam about 12 hours to the coast after the helicopter they were flying crashed near the northeast coast, the authorities said.
Research is continuing for two other passengers after Monday's accident, whose cause was not immediately clear, police and local authorities said.
Serge Gelle, state secretary for police, and a police official arrived at land territory in the town of Mahambo separately on Tuesday morning, after having managed to leave the helicopter, the port authorities' chief said.
In a video distributed on social networking, Gelle is seen lying and tired, still in uniform. My time to die has not yet come”, he is heard saying, adding that he is cold, but not hurt.
The helicopter on which the high official was flying was on his way to where a ship sank Monday morning. At least 39 people died in that disaster, according to police.
