Professor Blerim Latifi has written for President Ibrahim Rugova on his birthday, saying he did not follow his idol path, said to be Peter Bogdan, the first original author of Albanian literature until the end.
Latifi wrote that Bogdan had known that a moment should come when words should be put aside and taken arms. He says Rugova didn't understand that.
“It is often said that Ibrahim Rugova was an idol to Peter Bogdan. He was so fond of his picture that he chose to do his Ph.D. on Bogdan's work “But Rugova did not follow his idol path to the end. Peter Bodgan knew that there is always a moment when words should be put aside and arms taken. Because tyranny does not waver without a sense of humor. Rugova was unable to understand that this moment had come after Dayton”, Latiff writes.
He speculates what Ibrahim Rugova may have thought at the time.
Perhaps because he did not believe we could stand in front of a Serbia equipped with one of Europe's most powerful armies. Maybe why he believed in the miracle of pacifism. Maybe why he didn't want to take responsibility for the suffering that war-types bring about this of intellectuals with a human conscience. As the political leader of a oppressed people, he had to nurture people's trust in deliverance, but deep down in himself he dominated intellectual scepticism. And so, being between these two positions paralysed practical action”, Latif wrote.
He praises Rugova's role in Rambouilles and after the war, while considering that his legacy is the continuation of the basic national Renaissance message.
“In Rambouille was constructive, and after the war it was crucial that political tensions were not turned into political vole. Its political heritage is the continuation of our national Renaissance's fundamental message: the fate of Albanians is guaranteed only as long as they maintain ties with the West and target its” values, says Latifi.
