EU envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia Miroslav Lajcak estimates that this process is the biggest and most important challenge in the Balkans.
The “because it is not just these two states, Serbs and Albanians living in every Balkan country. The Kosovo-Serbia relationship affects regional co-operation, so it is of strategic importance”.
“Dialog, of course, is a sensitive issue for both Kosovo and Serbia. However, dialogue is lasting for more than a decade and has had good and concrete solutions. Dialogue has no alternative, and this is confirmed by Kosovo and Serbian leaders and is key to normalising European relations and for progress on their European path”, Lajcak has said.
Lajcak, for the Bosnian media media, has said that from his next meeting in Brussels between the parties, it is expected to be released with results.
“Today, we are able to have leaders with strong mandates both in Belgrade and Pristina. They have the strength to come with solutions and we are in the negotiation phase, which is the best way to move forward. The heads of state have met in June and July in Brussels, and we are ready for next time. We're working on making concrete decisions at that meeting. This dialogue is not easy, but it exists and I believe we will soon see concrete results”.
<x0)pass is not in the interest of either side. The international community is clear when it says there is no alternative for dialogue and there are no deviations. We expect serious and active commitment from Kosovo and Serbia. We also have documents that say even partners are aware of this”.
