The country's prime minister, Albin Kurti, has by video, welcomed our countrymen for the holiday season.
It is a great pleasure for me, and for all of us who live in Kosovo to welcome you to your homeland. Last year's holidays are a special time for all of us, but especially for you, that most of the year are physically abroad but with a mind and heart in Kosovo”.
Kurt, thanking them for economic growth from exiles, has also warned them of the spread of the Omitron version of COVID-19.
We're so grateful for your continued support of our country. Remittances have risen above 20 per cent this year. Most of the year you are really out of your homeland and our country, but you are always inside our nation, and even more than we are here in terms of economic growth”.
Unfortunately, this weekend finds us again in difficult conditions of COVID-19 pandemic. This time in the face of a new version of the Corona virus, Omitron version. This option is spreading at extraordinary and unprecedented speed worldwide, jeopardising the functioning of health systems in some Western European countries as well as in the United States of America”.
We have already received confirmation from the Kosovo National Public Health Institute that the Omitron version has been detected in Kosovo, which forces us to increase our vigilance against the spread of this virus. According to the advice we have received from local and international experts, an apparent increase in COVID-19 cases is inevitable, as well as in Kosovo as worldwide”.
Your arrival in Kosovo will cheer your families and each of us. This time, however, we will have to limit ourselves to manifestations and gatherings. As prime minister of the Republic of Kosovo, I have no prior duty than to protect the lives and health of our citizens, with all the means Government has available. And I have this task not only on the agenda that are residents of Kosovo, but also on those of you who are coming away from us”, Kurti said.
