What Kosovo: Dacic invites Serbs to vote to change Serbia's Constitution

Serbia's Parliament Speaker and Socialist Party of Serbia leader (SPS), Ivica Dacic, has declared there will be a common candidate with Aleksandar Vuciqi's Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) for the upcoming presidential elections, while for parliament and for local elections “will not be so”. “If I would run (in [...]
“If I were to run (in presidential elections), we would bring division to the electorate and that would contribute to destabilisation and deliver the wrong message, so it is unnecessary”, Daciqi told “TV Prva” on December 21st, broadcasts Free Europe, the Serbian language edition.
He added that the SPS, which is a partner of Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq's coalition of government, will continue to co-operate with that party even after the elections.
There is no love in politics, but only as much as you need and need as strong you are”, said SPS head, broadcast Zeri.info.
The regular presidential and Belgrade elections, as well as early parliamentary elections in Serbia, will be held on April 3rd, 2022. The elections for Serbia's presidency will be announced on 2 March.
Dacic has called on Serbia's citizens to come out in the January referendum and vote for the change of the Constitution, because exactly what will change is specified.
The subx0> in the Constitution only changes part of justice. What Kosovo is, it is in the preamble, and for that it would have to change many things. Here you can see exactly what is changing, and this is that parliament no longer chooses judges and prosecutors, but they are elected by independent organs, because progress is considered in the rule of law section”, Daciqi said.
On January 16th, 2022 citizens of Serbia will declare “po” or “yo” in the referendum for a question: “Are you confirming the act to change the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia?”.
In the 16 January referendum, Serbia's citizens will vote for changes to the Constitution in the part dealing with the judiciary. According to Justice Minister Maja Popovovic's reports, the changes should exclude politics from the election of judges and prosecutors.
The changes concern the judiciary, and Serbia is dedicated to the European Union membership process (BE). As EU representatives have consistently explained, the goal of changing Serbia's Constitution is to achieve an independent judiciary, without political influence and rule of law.
At the same time, these are key conditions for progress in European integrations and Serbia's EU membership.
If the changes are adopted, according to Serbian authorities, politics will be excluded from the election of judges and prosecutors.
