Kosovo Convention Today turns 20

Kosovo Parliament Speaker Glauk Konjufca said Kosovo's Assembly exercises its competencies, always considering the principle of sharing the governments sanctioned with the Constitution, as well as the principle of representation of all Kosovo citizens. So he said on the 20th anniversary of the Parliament's creation.

The “The eight parliamentary elections and eight legislatures have been realised during this 20-year-old, in terms of freedom and democracy. Kosovo's Parliament Genesis dates back decades, evolved during the various stages of Kosovo history”, Conjufca wrote in “Facebook”, recalling the 20-year history of the Parliament since its establishment in 2001.

He said that as an institution of an independent and sovereign country, the Assembly cultivates interparliamentary relations with a host of friendly countries, signing memorandums of co-operation, forming parliamentary groups of friendship and developing parliamentary diplomacy.

“Kong implements the recommendations of the European Commission's country report, has an active role in implementing the SAA, holding twice a year regular meetings under the Commission for the SAA, as well as ensuring that legislation adopted is compatible with European and international standards”, Konjufca said further.

In the face of citizens' demands, but with restrictions on responsibilities defined by the legal framework of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and Kosovo's Constitutional Framework, Kosovo's Assembly was established on December 10th 2001 as the country's top lawmaker and representative.
