The Democratic Party of Kosovo has saved the mayor of the Podujevo municipality, Speed Buljqi, from extraordinary elections. This party's municipal adviser, Hilmi Hoxha, has been elected mayor of the Municipal Assembly today.
Communists of the Podujevo municipality have voted for their Speaker today.
Hilmi Hoxha, municipal adviser to the Democratic Party of Kosovo, has received the votes needed to lead the Podujevo Assembly in the third round, in a secret vote.
19 municipal advisers have participated in the vote, out of them 19 have been pro. The LDK and two AAK advisers have not participated in the vote.
During today's session, Vetevendosje Movement candidate Adela Stublla has withdrawn from the race, as in the first two rounds yesterday she did not have enough votes for the Parliament's leaders.
The Podujevo Assembly had tried to vote the Speaker of the Parliament two weeks earlier, but this failed because of a lack of quorum.
With today's election of the mayor of the Communist Assembly in Podujevo, extraordinary elections have been averted.
To be elected in the first vote, the candidate must get more than half the votes of the total number of elected members. If in the first vote none of the candidates secure the required majority, then the two candidates with the largest number of votes go to the second vote. The candidate, who gets more than half of the total number of elected members votes, will be elected chairman of the municipal assembly”, says in the 41.4 and 41.5 provisions of Article 42 of the Law for Local Self-government.
