Government Kurti zero transparency with journalists

Transparency in reporting with information between the Government of Kosovo, as well as media, is being seen as insufficient, government institutions and public-owned companies still suffer from lack of transparency. Kosovo Journalists' Association Board Chairman Xhemajl Rexha said that different and numerous media have stressed the closure of Kurti's government in response to journalists.

“The public statements of the two government spokespersons are very rare, while the dozens of questions sent throughout the day by different media to the government receive very few of them and that is what reporters” tell us themselves, Rexha has said.

But it states that AGK is staying in touch with journalists so that something can be done on this issue.

And what we're actually doing is that we're in contact with the media to get a more accurate number, let's say the requests that were made within a certain time and how many of them have received responses on the part of the Government to make more clear the extent of how informative this government is”.

Rexha points out that, “Kurti at media conferences allows journalists to ask questions on various issues, but that these meetings are not enough”.

Such cases in which journalists are not answered are frequent even in the Canal10 media, so media editor Naim Sadiku informs Albanian Post.

There are dozens of cases of our media alone, which journalists don't get at all, or have to wait for days for a written reply”.

Sadiku explains that, “such an approach is found on the part of the government, but even at almost every ministry”.

Failure by state institutions has to do with easier topics.

The current three-day six different ministries are not returning answers to some topics related to budget spending this year”, he declares.

Even after complaints by journalists that are not having enough transparency of state institutions with journalists, Erblin Hoxha from the “Movement FOL” says no media requests have been submitted to the Commissioner for Information and Privateness.

“According to the law, institutions have seven days for answers and if they do not return or prohibit access to public documents, the complaint should be sent to the Agency for Information and Privateity, which is then tasked to press institutions to comply with the” law.

However, Hoxha considers that, in the case of lack of communication between these two sides, problematic may appear.

The media role must be fair information, but also a platform that holds the government responsible”.

If this goal is not met and a conflict arises between the media and the government, then it falls directly to the citizens' expense and it creates space for misuse of public money or official post”.

But it explains that there are actions that journalists can take if there is a lack of information.

“Ankes must be sent to the Agency for Information and Privateness, which has a legal obligation to “due to” institutions to respect the law. Institutions if they do not respond or offer access to public documents, the Agency may also pronounce fines or other actions towards institutions”.

Transparency is an issue with which many authorities, institutions and businesses deal. Transparency presents one of the fundamental principles for achieving a healthy democracy and a functioning state or society, civil society representatives say. /Albanianpost. com
