The new German Agriculture Minister, Cem dealtmir, aims to impose stricter regulations for the food industry and to increase the prices of ready-to-food products, as they contain a lot of sugar, fat and salt.

According to him, Germans consume a lot in an unhealthy way, so they plan to impose stricter rules when it comes to products ready to feed the healthier people.

The German “Data is generally very unhealthy”, the Greens politician complained in an interview for Bildm Sonntag, explaining that the reason for his initiative was that more than 50 percent of German adults are overweight.

The reason for this situation is a lot of sugar, fat and salt, especially in ready products. Politicians have long tried to motivate the food industry to reduce the presence of these ingredients in food through voluntary commitments. That's it now. My goal is to set mandatory reduction targets. The price should be more emphasising ecological truth”, he underlined.

From Ozdemir's point of view, prices of food and agricultural products should also be raised.

There should be no more unwanted food prices, they lead to crop degradation, they prevent more animal well-being, they promote species extinction, and they burden the climate. I want to change that,” said German Agriculture Minister.

He wants to make people in Germany appreciate their food as much as their cars do.

I sometimes have a feeling that good motor oil is more important to us than good salad oil,” criticises finishedmir.

The food, he explained, should not become a luxury commodity, “but its price should more strongly highlight ecological truth”.

The Ministry of Agriculture's goal is to increase the surfaces of organicly cultivated agriculture from 10 to 30 percent by 2030. He wants to use the state's “purchasing power”.

Subservation in public institutions should focus on greater use of regional and organic products. The state should be a model here”, he said.

Meanwhile, Federal Environment Minister Steffie Lemke also called for a drastic reduction in pesticide use in agriculture.

“I don't suppose we'll be able to completely abandon the use of pesticides within four years. But we need a considerable reduction if we want to stop the insect extinction,” said Lemke.

She is convinced that even most farmers want to use fewer pesticides. However, farmers have been using them for decades, she said, following a European agricultural policy requiring farm growth and increased productivity or purchase of them.

Lemke also criticised the fact that the previous German government decided such a European agricultural policy would continue in the next seven years.
