White House medical adviser chief Anthony Fauci said scientists need more information before determining the severity of the Omitron variant.
“So far, there is no high degree of severity. But we have to be careful before making definitions whether it's less serious or it doesn't really cause any serious diseases, compared to Delta”, Fauci told CNN.
Reports from South Africa, where Omitron was identified for the first time, and since then it has been spreading rapidly in other countries, suggest that this option can cause easier symptoms compared to preliminary versions.
Omcroni is believed to be more contagious than other variants, including the Delta variant, but scientists are still working to see how effective this option is to avoid protection from vaccines.
The new coronary version has been identified in dozens of countries, but Delta is the main version that has caused rise in Europe and North America.
