“Disillusion of these fundamental facts and the deepening of war crimes bring pain to survivors, dishonor victims and keep alive divisions that continue to hinder lasting reconciliation, peace and prosperity for the Western Balkans”, the US State Department statement says.
Serbia's Interior Minister, Aleksandar Vulin, said on December 10th that Recak's massacre was a big “lie and a terrible falsification”.
“Agrition of NATO began after a terrible lie about Recak. At that time, we were neither capable nor smart to tell the whole world what a terrible lie it was” was quoted as saying the vulin.
On January 15th 1999, Serbian police and military forces in Kosovo killed 45 Albanian civilians in the village of Recak in the Shtime municipality.
The crimes committed in this village were then documented by the head of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation's observer mission in Europe, William Walker.
Recak's event was followed by NATO bombings on Serbian targets in Kosovo as well as in Serbia.
Vulin has repeatedly denied Recak's Massacre in the past, calling this massacre a fabricated “crime”.
