The defence of former President Hashim Thaci, who is headed by US lawyer Gregory Kehoe, has said his client has been offered guarantees for release from more than one state.

Kehoe in his letter to the Procedure Court has said two NATO member states are guarantor and have demanded that Thaci be allowed to release in one of these states.

On June 30th, 2021, after securing guarantees from two NATO member states, one of which is the contributing state of Kosovo's Specialised Chambers, and in line with Judge Ambos's joint opinion, defence requested Mr. Thaci in the third known countries. In order to assess the feasibility of submitted guarantees, the defence asked the Pre-Procedure Court to seek the views of the third countries mentioned above in connection with Mr. Thaci, or alternatively, orders Mr. Thaci in one of these two third countries”, the Thaci defence document submitted to the Pre-emptive Procedure Judge.

Kehoe has said there is no danger that his client will escape or make efforts to prevent the court's procedures, and also emphasises that there is no danger that Hashim Thaci “commits any other criminal work”.

Kehoe also as argument for the release of Thaci from custody uses the guarantee provided by Kosovo police.

“in any case, if required, Mr. Thaci confirms that he is willing to accept domestic arrest under any reasonable conditions that the Court of Pre-emptive Procedures finds necessary, including standard house arrest conditions to meet any request or concern of the Prosecutor and Court”, the defence requirement said.
