In what was expected to be a tight race, 35-year-old protest leader managed to defeat rightist rival Antonio Kast by more than 10 percent.
Boriqi told supporters that he would strengthen democracy by promising to halt Chile's neoliberal economic model, the BBC reports, translates Periscopi.
It will lead a state that has been plagued by strong riots in recent years and protests against inequality and corruption.
Mr. Boric brought great joy to the streets of the capital, Santiago, with his supporters waving flags and blowing horns.
