The Fipe-Confcommercio business group said the increasing number of cases and regulations of quarantine imposed by authorities have caused 25%-30% cancellation in New Year's dinner reservations.

Businesses are demanding a compensation scheme for employees and prolonging debt mortorium as a solution to the problem. Prime Minister Mario Draghi has tightened Covid-19's rules for the holiday period, preventing concerts and closing discotheques by 31 January.

Tourism Minister Massimo Garawaglia also said in a statement that he agrees with business concerns and urged the Labour Ministry to act quickly.
