Foreign media suggest that in the island community of Kodiak, air temperature at a batica meter reached 19.4 degrees Celsius Sunday, the highest ever recorded in December in Alaska, said University of Alaska scientist Rick Thoman of the Alaska Centre for Rating and Climate Policy.
The new standard rate came amid an extreme wave of December, said Thomman, including 18.3 at Kodiak Airport, a record 16.6 degrees Celsius in the Alaska Peninsula community at Cold Bay, and at least eight days of December with temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius in the Aleutian city of Unalaska, including a figure of 13.3 degrees Celsius that was Alaska's warmest Christmas day in history. /abcnews. al
